Foremost Pidgin English station, Wazobia FM, last Sunday marked its 10th anniversary at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, with celebrities from the media, corporate organisations and entertainment industry in attendance. Also in attendance were Amin Mousalli, owner of the radio station and Serge Noujaim, the new Chief Executive officer.
Hosted by Omotunde Adebowale, fondly known as Lolo 1 of Wazobia FM, OAPs of the station were given the opportunity to tell the audience about their working experience with the station as well as showcase other talents they have.
One of the stations celebrated OAP’s Ratata, showcased his musical abilities when he delivered a reggae song in Etsako dialect.
From D-Wana’s stumble into the profession to Mayowa, a trained architect, who has risen to fame through her online comedy skits, each of the employees rolled out testimonies on how they help each other.
Many of the OAPs owe their success to YAW, the Head of Presenters and they lauded him for his belief in their talents as well as the management who gave them room to explore their talents. Comedy relief was supplied by Funny Bone, Acapella and MC Abbey.
Wazobia started operation in 2007 and is a sister-station to Cool FM. The station is renowned for its humorous approach to news and topical issues.
“Our main aim at inception was to convey news to the layman in a language that they can easily understand,” said Tatiana Moussalli Nouri, Deputy Group MD of Wazobia FM.
In its usual tradition, the radio station awarded their ‘Ogbonge Awards’ to Media Agencies such as Media Reach, Media Perspective, Media Sale and Maxi Media. Regulatory agencies like Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), News Agency Nigeria (NAN) were also recipients of the award and many others. Satguru travels also rewarded a couple with a trip to Dubai through a raffle draw. There were also other consolation prizes.
